WASTEWISE in a seminar on sustainability and food waste
On 5 May, WASTEWISE partner Clara Cicatiello, from the University of Tuscia (Italy), participated in the seminar ‘Sustainability and Food Waste: Innovations and Perspectives for SMEs’, hosted by CNA (Italian Confederation of Craft Trades and Small—and Medium-Sized Enterprises) Lombardy in Milan.
The meeting was attended by academics, institutional representatives and confederal leaders. Particularly significant was the speech by the Honourable Maria Chiara Gadda, a member of the Italian Parliament and first signatory of the Italian law against food waste in 2016 (the so-called “Legge Gadda”).
During the seminar, several initiatives were presented against food waste, such as the roadmap against bread waste and other ones developed within the recently ended LOWINFOOD project, in which an important part of the WASTEWISE partners participated. In her intervention, Clara also had the opportunity to introduce the WASTEWISE project and present its objectives and the work that is going to be done, thus making the link between the two projects visible.
The member of the parliament was very interested to learn about what was presented and announced her intention to bring to the Chamber’s attention some of the initiatives, which is a unique opportunity to reach the political audience and potentially influence national policy discussions on food waste prevention and sustainability.
