Data collection on field losses is underway

WASTEWISE partners have started to collect data on food loss and waste in agricultural fields. On 22 September 2025, members of the University of Tuscia visited fields in Abruzzo, central Italy, to begin collecting data on salad losses. Using a camera-equipped drone, they assessed the quantity of salad in the field prior to harvest. They will then return after harvesting to use the drone to measure what remains and what has been lost.

The visit was hosted by Vincenzo Patierno, sales manager of OPOA Marsia, a large cooperative of vegetable producers in Abruzzo.
