
WASTEWISE’s first results at the Retaste Conference
On 24-27 September 2025, the Retaste Conference took place in Athens, Greece. Several WASTEWISE partners had a prominent presence at the conference, aimed at rethinking food resources, losses, and waste.
On the one hand, two of the conference sessions were featured by WASTEWISE partners:
- The first session devoted to monitoring, prevention & reduction of food loss and waste was chaired by the project scientific coordinator, Hanna Harikainen (LUKE), in which she gave a presentation, and also did the WASTEWISE partners Clara Cicatiello, from UNITUS, and Mattias Eriksson, from SLU.
- In the roundtable entitled “Food Waste prevention and Reduction: Does it Really Matters?”, three out of the four participants were project-related speakers, namely Clara Cicatiello, Mattias Eriksson, and the member of the External Advisory Board Felicitas Schneider.
On the other hand, Niina Sundin, from SLU, presented the preliminary results of the work that is being carried out in the project related to the rebound effect in a presentation entitled “To Count or Not to Count: Rebound Effects in Food Waste Prevention Life Cycle Assessments”.
Besides, three partners from the LUKE exhibited in poster presentations different pieces of work conducted in the project:
- Marita Kettunen: Review of food waste quantification and quantification methodologies used by EU Member States in the national reporting
- Venla Kyttä: Systematic assessment of environmental impacts embedded in food waste – A framework for evaluating environmental impacts through LCA integration
- Kim Lindfors: Using LLMs to Match Disparate Food Classification Systems for Environmental Impact Assessment: Application in the Wastewise Project
