Visit to apple processing industries, to fill the gaps regarding the food loss and waste in this supply chain

On 22-23 October 2025, the WASTEWISE partners from the University of Tuscia, Italy, visited two cooperatives and one major processing industry in Italy that operate within the apple supply chain. The aim of the visit was to collect and complete the missing data regarding the food loss and waste in the apple supply chain. 

The two cooperatives work together after harvesting: they select the apples according to the qualities, the best ones going on the fresh market, while the downgraded apples go to processing industries that process them to produce juices and apple puree.
