WASTEWISE gives a voice to women scientists

Women remain underrepresented in scientific research around the world. This is why 11 February is celebrated as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We asked WASTEWISE’s female researchers about the importance of this day. They also sent a message to young women who dream of working in science and research.

Read on for some of their thoughts and watch the two videos posted on WASTEWISE’s channels.

“It is important to make women that work in science visible because we offer a different perspective, providing more qualitative insights and a systems-thinking approach.”

“Women have the capacity to create networks, also among them, networks of solidarity that can really support research and collaboration.”

“I have two daughters and I really want to lead by example. I want to show them that it’s important to do inspiring work, stand out, and say what we think.”

“Trust in your passion and talent, and don’t be afraid to take your space in science.”

“Here are two practical insights: don’t doubt about your scientific quality, and look for a place where the structures are already stronger.”

“Although there will be difficult moments, such as achieving a work-life balance, it will be worth it when you see the impact you are having on improving our society.”
