WASTEWISE celebrates its First Dissemination Workshop at the Food4Future international summit
On the second day of the consortium meeting, all participants, including both project partners and the stakeholders representing the five MAPs of WASTEWISE, travelled to the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, where the Food4Future international summit is taking place. This convention was selected by WASTEWISE to celebrate its First Dissemination Workshop, in which the overall project approach, the challenges it addresses regarding food waste, and the first results obtained were presented at the Demo Stage.
Hanna Hartikainen (LUKE), Mattias Eriksson (SLU), Silvia Zingale (Agroscope), Niina Sundin (SLU), and Berta Vidal (Espigoladors) talked about the challenge of turning food waste metrics into decisions, the gaps in food waste measurements and their impact, the nutritional impact of food waste, the rebound effect of reducing food waste, and the policy pathways of implementing measures to reduce food waste. Interactions with the audience via an interactive question-and-answer application gave the opportunity to gather public opinion on different topics and hotspots regarding food waste.
Last but not least, this event also saw WASTEWISE meet its sister project, PRECIOUS. Several project partners, including scientific coordinator Claudia Giordano from LUKE, and representatives from SLU and Agroscope, had the opportunity to meet Deitze Otadui, the PRECIOUS project coordinator. As the two projects are very policy-oriented, they looked for networking and collaboration opportunities. While WASTEWISE is focused on research, PRECIOUS is more technology-oriented, but both projects share the common objective of reducing food waste through policy delivery. This first in-person meeting between the two projects yielded some interesting insights.
